Regional Centers
Even larger than community centers are regional centers, where their objective is to support surrounding neighborhoods and community centers with populations of 250,000 to 500,000. [2] Regional centers have the ability to support a large number of jobs for the surrounding community, as they are comprised of large businesses, retail malls, government offices, and more. Regional centers have an additional role, they also support tourism and outside commerce. Many large corporate headquarters and large entertainment facilities are found within Los Angeles Regional centers increasing daily traffic to these locations. For this reason, major transportation hubs can be found in regional centers. [2] For more detailed information on transportation please visit the link.
Los Angeles categorizes regional centers by three different formats. First we have regional centers with buildings ranging form medium to tall heights located along major circulation paths. Examples of these are Wilshire and Hollywood Boulevards. [2] Next we have builds of the same heights mentioned above, but these buildings are located on large plots of land, with a considerable separation in between. Examples of this format would be Warner Center and Century City. Lastly we have retail commercial malls, which are small to medium height buildings sprinkled with pedestrian friendly areas. [2]
